Simulator

Redbird FMX Full Motion SimulatorWe fly the Redbird FMX full-motion simulator, designated an "advanced aviation training device" (AATD) by the FAA. The FAA allows you to log some of the flight time required for your certificate using the AATD.

The cockpit of an airplane is the worst place to learn how to fly an airplane. Imagine trying to learn algebra while playing a video game and riding in a speed boat with a stereo blasting. To make it even worse, put a frustrated algebra teacher in the boat with you, looking over your shoulder. This is what most flight schools are asking you to do. The airlines, military and corporate training departments know this, that’s why their pilots train in simulators. And that's why we do it that way at Texas American!

In addition to removing the distractions and lots of the inefficiencies of the airplane (like taxing, flying to the practice area, waiting for takeoff, etc.) the simulator allows you to practice individual elements of flying. You can focus on one area at a time, then pause, get instant feedback and try again. The simulator allows you to learn the basics in less time, making flying the plane easier. Utilizing advanced full-motion simulators allows our students to learn faster and with more understanding.

Instructors

Gold Seal Flight InstructorsYou'll have one instructor assigned to you. All our instructors have thousands of hours of dual instruction given. Instruction is their passion. They're not using your instruction hours as a stepping stone to the airlines or other aviation job, and they won't bail out half way through your training.

Ground School

Ground SchoolWe use Gleim's Knowledge Test courses to assure you do well on the written test. These courses have been so successful that Gleim guarantees you'll pass! Other ground school topics will be introduced by your instructor as your flying progresses.

Ground Instruction is one-on-one: you learn at your pace with your instructor. We place heavy emphasis on the Examiner's oral exam. You'll feel like a pro when you start your check ride!
